Iconic 'Titanic' door prop that saved Kate Winslet sells at auction for over $700K

Many fans have argued that it could've supported both Jack and Rose. The iconic floating wood panel from the movie "Titanic" has sold at auction for over $700,000. The piece of wood, often referred to as a door, was part of the door frame above the first-class lounge entrance on director James Cameron's reconstruction of the ship. Many fans argue that it could have supported both Jack and Rose, making their decision to stay in the frigid water an empty gesture. The panel sold for $719,000, along with a prototype of the same piece, the wheel used for the boat in the movie sold for around $200,000 and the whip from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and Bill Murray's red-rose bowling ball from "Kingpin."

The iconic floating wood panel from the movie "Titanic" sold for more than $700,000 at auction.

Heritage Auctions said the piece of wood is often mistakenly referred to as a door. But in reality, it's just a part of the door frame that was above the first-class lounge entrance on director James Cameron's reconstruction of the ship.

Many fans have argued that it could've supported both Jack and Rose. Which when you think about it, makes his decision to stay in the frigid water an empty gesture.

The panel ended up selling for $719,000. It wasn't the only prop from the movie that sold at auction either. A prototype of the same piece of wood sold for $125,000, while the wheel used for the boat in the movie sold for $200,000.

Also on sale at the auction was the whip from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," and Bill Murray's red-rose bowling ball from "Kingpin."
