Whiplash weather headed to Utah bringing high winds, snow showers

The cold front associated with this storm will move into western Utah on Friday morning and spread south across the I-15 corridor, with showers expected to begin near the Idaho border, followed by scattered showers across eastern Utah. Winds will increase across Utah on Thursday, with gusts potentially exceeding 30 mph. Temperatures will remain warm throughout the day, reaching highs in the 60s and 70s across most of the state. However, temperatures will remain below normal for early April, with highs expected to reach 40s up north and 60s down south. Another storm may bring isolated showers to southern Utah on Monday, but the rest of Utah will remain dry.

Utahs, get ready for some weather whiplash! Temperatures topped out at 70 degrees on Wednesday for the first time in 2024, but we'll be seeing snow by the weekend! Read on for a timeline of the big changes that will come our way in the next few days:
Clouds will increase and winds will pick up across Utah on Thursday. By afternoon, winds will be blowing from the south 15 to 25 miles per hour in most areas across the state. Some gusts could blow over 30 mph. In far western Utah, including the Tooele Valley, gusts could get as high as 50 miles per hour. Because these winds will blow in from the south, temperatures will remain warm. Highs will reach into the 60s and 70s across most of the state.
The cold front associated with this storm will move into western Utah on Friday morning. Showers will begin near the Idaho border in the early morning hours. Those showers will then spread south across the rest of the I-15 corridor throughout the morning. Eastern Utah will start to see scattered showers in the afternoon and evening. The showers will start as valley rain and mountain snow, but snow levels will drop to the valley floors by Friday night. Winds will remain gusty throughout the day, but the strongest gusts will blow across eastern Utah.
On-and-off snow showers will fall across northern and central Utah throughout the day Saturday as the core of the storm moves through the region. Temperatures will be much colder by this point. Highs in northern Utah will only get into the mid-40s, and southern Utah will top out in the upper 50s. Winds will remain breezy statewide.
A few snow showers will linger in northern Utah, especially around the Great Salt Lake, during the morning hours. The snowfall will end in the afternoon, and the skies will begin to clear up. Temperatures will remain well below normal for early April with highs in the 40s up north and 60s down south.
Another storm may bring a few isolated showers to southern Utah on Monday, but the rest of the state will stay dry. The majority of the coming week is looking dry with warming temperatures.
