A juvenile was arrested by members of the FBI at Salt Lake City International Airport on Sunday for reportedly making terroristic threats on an airplane.

Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Salt Lake City Field Office said that this investigation began on March 22 when they received information about a social media post that was taken on an airplane departing from SLC International with the caption, "bomb has been planted."

Investigators found that the threat was a hoax and there was no disruption to the flight.

The juvenile suspect from Wyoming was arrested on March 31 when he returned to Salt Lake City from his trip.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, which includes one Salt Lake City Police officer, carried out this investigation.

"Issuing a threat - even over social media, via text message, or through email - is taken very seriously and can have devastating consequences for both the public and for the perpetrators," authorities stated. "Hoax threats disrupt school and waste law enforcement resources."

Officials have provided the following tips in light of this incident:

• Do not send or post any hoax threats.

• Alert local law enforcement if you are the target of an online threat.

• Contact authorities if you come across an online threat of violence. Do not share or forward the information to anyone else.

• Talk to children about their stressors and emotions to mitigate any attention- or revenge-seeking behavior. Explain the importance of responsible social media use.
