A man was arrested in Cedar City on Sunday after police say he hit an officer with a golf club multiple times and tried to hit others. He allegedly fled a traffic stop the day before. Michael James Torp, 39, was arrested in Cedar City after police say he hit an officer with a golf club multiple times and attempted to assault others. The incident occurred the day after a Utah Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a white Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was registered to Torp. The police believe Torp had fled the traffic stop to evade arrest. The next day, a different officer saw Torp's white Dodge truck in a gas station parking lot and recognized it as the one the previous driver fled. Police used their TASERs to restrain Torp but he allegedly charged an officer, who fell backwards onto the ground.
