SALT LAKE CITY -- Jeffrey R. Holland, a high-ranking official in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who was next in line to become the faith's president, has died. He was 85. Jeffrey R. Holland, a high-ranking official in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has died at 85 from complications from kidney disease. Holland led the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, which oversees church policy and business interests. He was the longest-tenured member of the group after President Dallin H. Oaks, who became president of the church in October, is now next in line for the presidency. Holland was known for his orator skills and for his work at Brigham Young University, where he worked to improve interfaith relations and establish a satellite campus in Jerusalem.
