New market space, restaurant part of plan for new history-themed Salt Lake City trail
The group behind a new history-themed trail now being constructed near the Utah Capitol says it envisions transformations to historic buildings along the path, which can bring new restaurants and events to Capitol Hill. The Pioneer Trail Foundation is leading a history-themed trail near the Utah Capitol in Salt Lake City, with the first phase of construction set to begin soon. The group plans to transform historic buildings along the path into new restaurants and events. The first phase includes the State Street section, which is expected to be completed by mid-November, with new landscaping and traffic circle completed by the end of the year. Ryan Beck, chairman of the Pioneer Trail foundation, also revealed plans for a new ground-floor restaurant at the historic Council Hall building, which will be converted into a "debate hall" for political discussions and a new bookstore focused on the history of the U.S. and Utah. The project was approved by the Utah Legislature for $10 million earlier this year, despite controversy during the legislative session.
