Few storms linger Monday evening, another heatwave building through midweek

Bottom line?! Excessive heat returns to southern Utah with temperatures 10-15 degree above average by Wednesday. Stay tuned! A few isolated storms are possible for the afternoon, but temperatures are expected to remain above average in northern Utah, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-80s for much of northern Utah. A high pressure ridge is expected to amplify over the region this week, leading to temperatures rising 10-15 degrees above normal. An excessive heat watch has been issued for the Glen Canyon area for Wednesday through Thursday evening, where temperatures of 106-107 are expected. An expected high-pressure ridge will continue to amplify the region's temperatures, contributing to an increase in high temperatures. SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Hey there, Utah! Dry air filling in behind our weak cold front is clearing skies and keeping temperatures in the 80s for much of northern Utah this afternoon — a nice break from the mid to upper 90s on Sunday.

A few isolated storms remain possible this afternoon with the best chance of any showers over the mountain areas south of I-80, with moisture clearing this evening. Temperatures for southern Utah remain hot, with highs in the upper 90s this afternoon and the possibility of St. George topping out right at 100 degrees.

Heading into midweek, a high pressure ridge will once again amplify over the region with temperatures spiking well above average. The hot and dry conditions moving in will help temperatures rise 10-15 degrees above normal. Most valleys will experience mid to upper 90s, and far southern Utah will climb well into the triple digits yet again. An excessive heat watch has been issued for the Glen Canyon area for Wednesday through Thursday evening, temperatures of 106-107 are expected in the afternoons. In addition to the heat, sunshine will likely remain through midweek with breezy winds down south. Overall, a pretty dry couple of days is ahead.

By the end of the week, a low off the southern California coast will move inland bringing subtle changes to the overall pattern. The trough should lift northeast through the state on Friday and bring the chance of cooling a tiny bit for many areas by the afternoon, with St. George expected to slide closer to average highs Friday. The trough moving through the state will increase southwest flow and bring some moisture back to the region late Thursday into Friday. This could lead to more afternoon thunderstorms in eastern and southern Utah. This may lead to flash flood impacts to these areas, and we’ll continue to 4Warn you as we make it through the week. Temperatures in northern Utah will also drop over the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 80s along the Wasatch Front, near average.

Bottom line?! Excessive heat returns to southern Utah with temperatures 10-15 degree above average by Wednesday. Stay tuned!
