Tree vanishes from Rose Park home for sale in possible check overpayment scam

A Rose Park woman is warning others after a tree disappeared from her parents’ property while the home was for sale. A Utah consumer protection official says th Cindy Maestas, a Rose Park resident, has warned others after a tree mysteriously disappeared from her parents' property while their home was for sale. A Utah consumer protection official, Daniel Larsen, believes this could be a check overpayment scam. The scam involves sending a check that is for more than the product or service being sold for, but the scammer then asks for the excess money to be sent back. Larsen warns that if someone is sending too much money for something, it is almost always a scam. Businesses doing work on vacant homes should know who has authority to approve the work, which could result in significant legal problems.
