Art Installations Create a Sense of Place in The New SLC
"Crossroads of the World," by Artist Gordon Huether unveiled as airport rebuild wraps up The art installations Artist Gordon Huether has been commissioned to create several major, structurally integrated art pieces for The New SLC, marking the completion of the airport's 12-year rebuild. The most recent installation, “Crossroads to the World” is a suspended installation of about 2,500 colorful, laser-cut acrylic airplanes hung on stainless steel cables and hung from a stainless-steel mesh supported by a 24-foot diameter stainless- steel ring. The installation is fabricated in acrylic and coated with dichroic film, creating dynamic shades of color throughout the day. Other art installations include “The Canyon”, the largest installation at 400 ft. long by 22 ft. tall, depicting Utah’s slot canyon landscape, and “Swallows in Flight” in Concourse B-west.
