The arrest occurred around 9:30 a.m. Thursday near 300 East and 100 South in the city. Police identified Martinez as wanted on an outstanding warrant for a "prior violent crime" and seized two firearms and three knives. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing.

A 23-year-old wanted fugitive was taken into custody after a member of the community recognized him and called police.

The arrested happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday near 300 East and 100 South in Salt Lake City.

Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the community member waved down an officer and reported the suspect.

Officers approached the man and identified him as Louie Martinez. They said he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for what they called a “prior violent crime.”

Police said Martinez had two firearms and three knives when he was taken into custody.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, obstruction of justice, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal trespassing.

Details about the previous crimes Martinez was accused of were not released.
