Downtown Salt Lake City will be busy in 2027. What streets will close?
Several street closures are planned next year, between the Salt Lake Temple open house and redevelopment near the Salt Palace Convention Center. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Church) plans to close several roads for the 2027 Salt Lake Temple open house, which will occur from April 5, 2027, through Oct. 1, 20 27. The event is expected to significantly impact downtown traffic. Concerns have increased since Juan Becerra, the government and community relations manager for the church, began meeting with community councils to explain the church's transportation plans. Smith Entertainment Group, in conjunction with Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County, has released new renderings for a "sports, entertainment, culture and convention" district around the Delta Center. Initial construction is expected for February 2027 and could lead to additional downtown road closures. Salt Lake city transportation officials are preparing residents and visitors for changes, with sections of three downtown roads set to close in March 2027. The city aims to encourage visitors to park on the west side of the open house.
