SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! Drier air and warming up a few degrees compared to yesterday in Northern and Central Utah, and you can expect Washington County to kick it up a few degrees as well.

Bottom Line? High heat shows up yet again with excessive heat for parts of southern Utah and the potential for our first triple-digit day along the Wasatch Front.

Our Tuesday is a day of building as a ridge of high-pressure positions itself over Utah again. Highs today along the Wasatch Front will climb into the low 90s, between eight to 10 degrees above normal, and triple digits are expected in parts of Washington County, with St. George climbing to 103 today with plenty of sunshine.

As we trek toward the midweek, the high-pressure ridge will once again amplify over the region with temperatures spiking about 10-15 degrees above seasonal averages. Average highs in Salt Lake City this week range between 82-84 degrees, while St. George typically sees daytime highs between 95-97 degrees.

Most valleys throughout the state will have daytime highs reach the mid to upper 90s, and far southern Utah will climb well into the triple digits yet again. An excessive heat watch has been issued for the Glen Canyon area for Wednesday through Thursday evening, temperatures of 106-107 are expected in the afternoons. In addition to the heat, sunshine will likely remain through midweek with breezy winds down south. When it comes to the bulk of the work week in Utah, it won’t just be hot, it will also remain dry.

By the end of the week, a low off the southern California coast will move inland bringing subtle changes to the overall pattern. The trough should lift northeast through the state on Friday and could moderate temperatures slightly with St. George expected to slide closer to average highs Friday.

The trough moving through the state will increase southwest flow and bring some moisture back to the region late Thursday into Friday too. This could lead to more afternoon thunderstorms in eastern and southern Utah, which means flash flood potential could rise in certain spots we love to hike and bike, so we’ll continue to 4Warn you as we make it through the week. Temperatures in northern Utah will also drop over the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 80s along the Wasatch Front, near average.

The 4Warn Weather Team will continue to monitor conditions and keep you posted on changing conditions both on our 4Warn Weather app as well as on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
